COVID-19 Relief — 500 Families Supported Monthly for a Year
When the world stopped, WMD kept showing up at our door with food every single month.
— Community Beneficiaries
When COVID-19 struck Pakistan in 2020, millions lost their daily wages overnight. Lockdowns meant no work, no income, and no food on the table. WMD mobilized rapidly, launching one of its most sustained relief operations — supporting over 500 families every month for an entire year.
The Crisis
Daily wage earners — labourers, vendors, domestic workers — were hit hardest. Families that lived hand-to-mouth suddenly had nothing. Many couldn’t afford basic food items, let alone healthcare or protective equipment. The situation was dire, especially in urban slums and low-income areas of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
WMD’s Response
From April 2020 to March 2021, WMD’s disaster response team:
- Distributed ration boxes to 500+ families monthly across multiple cities
- Conducted COVID-19 awareness campaigns on safety protocols
- Distributed PPE kits, masks, and sanitizers to frontline workers
- Provided oxygen concentrators and saturation monitoring equipment to critical patients
- Supported medical emergency cases with medicine costs and hospital coordination
Sustained Impact
Over the course of the year, WMD served approximately 6,000+ families — ensuring no household in their operational areas went without food during the pandemic. The operation demonstrated WMD’s capacity for large-scale, sustained emergency response and cemented their reputation as a reliable humanitarian organization.
