These children were selling flowers at signals just to eat. Now they go to school every day. WMD paid their fees, gave them uniforms, books, and even supports our family with ration.

— Anonymous

Three orphaned children were found selling flowers at traffic signals in Rawalpindi. With no parents and no support system, these young children had no access to education and were surviving day to day on whatever they could earn on the streets.

WMD’s Intervention

WMD’s Education Support Program team identified the children during field visits. After verification, the team took immediate action — enrolling all three children in a local school. WMD paid school fees directly to the institution, provided uniforms, books, school bags, and essential stationery.

Understanding that education alone wasn’t enough, WMD also arranged monthly ration packages for the family to ensure the children wouldn’t need to return to the streets to survive.

The Transformation

All three children are now attending school regularly. WMD counselors continue to engage with the children and their guardians to ensure they stay in education. This case is part of WMD’s broader mission to combat child labour — with a 60%+ success rate in transitioning children from labour to school.
