My child needs blood every few weeks. WMD's donor network has never let us down. They arrange matching donors quickly and coordinate with the blood bank for safe collection. They are our lifeline.

— Anonymous

Thalassemia patients require regular blood transfusions — often every few weeks — to survive. For families already struggling financially, the constant need for blood creates an additional burden that can feel impossible to manage.

WMD’s Blood Support Network

Through WMD’s Blood Support Program, a network of consent-based voluntary blood donors is maintained and categorized by blood group and city. When a thalassemia patient’s family reached out in urgent need of a rare blood type, WMD’s system was able to rapidly identify and mobilize a matching donor.

WMD coordinated with a partner blood bank to ensure proper screening, collection, and storage of the donated blood within medically approved validity periods.

Ongoing Support

This wasn’t a one-time intervention. WMD continues to support thalassemia patients and their families through its donor network, ensuring that no patient suffers due to unavailability of blood. The program maintains special availability records for rare blood groups, including negative blood types, across Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Haripur, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Lahore.
